FAQ Questions

If I miss a week, am I allowed to do a make-up?

Unfortunately we no longer offer make-ups for sessions that are missed during the Fall-Spring season. We previously would offer them, however it requires that families tell us in advance about their absence, as well as requires a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make it happen. If you have an extenuating circumstance that comes up (ie: swimmer broke their arm and will be missing 4-6 weeks of swimming) please send us an email so we can discuss some alternative options.

I tried to register on the website, but on "Registration Step 2.2: Select an Open Registration Season" is blank. What do I need to do?

Registration for each season is released approximately 1-1.5 months in advance for returning participants. If you are seeing a blank page or no information for that particular season is available, it means that either the password was incorrect and from a previous season, or the new season has not yet been released. Verify with the email you received that the password is correct, otherwise wait until you receive an email announcing that the next available season has become available to register for.

I am a new parent interested in registering a swimmer with SWB, how does the registration process work?

On the home page of Swim With Beth, there is a link at the top of the screen that will bring you to a waitlist form, or you can click here. Please fill out the form in its entirety and provide as much pertinent information as possible (the better the description of your swimmer's abilities, the easier it will be for us to best predict the appropriate lane placement for your swimmer).

Your swimmer may be selected throughout the year if space becomes available (this waitlist form is applicable for all Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Warm Up, and Summer seasons). If your swimmer is selected from the waitlist, you will be emailed informing you of an opening. We will ask that you bring your swimmer for a try-out (unless they have already done one prior) so that we can guarantee the appropriate lane placement for your swimmer, and to ensure that SWB is an appropriate fit. Once the try-out is complete, you will be provided with a password that will allow you to register on the SWB website.

Why do you require tryouts?

Placing your swimmer into the correct lane is very important. We divide the swimmers according to ability and a try out ensures we have them with the correct group.

I have an 11 year old swimmer who is NOT legal in all four strokes. Does he qualify for the program?

The only day/time that we offer classes for swimmers nine and older who are not legal in all four strokes is on Fridays from 5:30-6:30 PM. The primary focus of SWB is for swimmers age ten years old and younger. Swimmers 9&O must be legal in all four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) in order to qualify for all the other class times that we offer.

My 9 year old swimmer is proficient in everything except breaststroke, and can do it but one foot turns in.  Can she swim in lane 3, the lane for swimmers learning a correct breaststroke kick?

SWB does not place older athletes with the 8 and under swimmers. It has been attempted in the past, and inevitably the older swimmer figures out they are in a lane with a six year old and gets upset. Additionally, the maturity levels are very different. SWB does offer a lane on Saturdays 10:30-11:30 AM for swimmers age 9+ who are not legal in all four strokes.

What does it mean when a coach says my child is not legal in a stroke?

There are various rules associated with the four competitive strokes, particularly breaststroke and butterfly. These strokes can be difficult to master and have multiple rules that define what is correct or legal. For instance, in breaststroke the athlete's feet need to be flexed and turned out in order to be considered legal.

What is the inclement weather policy for SWB?

SWB follows the inclement weather policy that the JCC sets. Per the JCC website, "the decision to close the facility, delay openings, or close early is based on the weather forecast, current unstable weather, and projected unsafe driving conditions". The main page on the SWB website will be updated as soon as a closure is known, and an email will be sent to all affected parties. If inclement weather is expected, please check your emails before leaving for the JCC, as sometimes closures can occur early in the morning.
